Othon Cinema, in its new screening program, will present the first feature film of renowned contemporary Mexican director Carlos Reygadas, Japón, in Istanbul for the first time with the restored version by The Criterion Collection. The screening will take place on Saturday, February 8th, at 7:00 PM at the 1948 Atlas Cinema!
About the Film:
A man traveling from the city to a remote village to commit suicide encounters a devout elderly woman upon his arrival, whose quiet humanity reawakens his desire for life. Exploring the rugged beauty of the Mexican countryside with an earthy tactility, the film creates a poetic landscape where life intertwines with death and the animal and spiritual aspects of human experience become inseparable. Japón offers an existential journey into uncharted cinematic territory, showcasing the unique artistry of its director.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the beloved Carlos Reygadas and Fernanda Garduno for making this special screening possible!
