About the Film:
Alexandros, a renowned author of his time, is faced with deep melancholy after the death of his wife and his own terminal diagnosis. Having led a life filled with unfinished works, he becomes lost in the vivid memories of his past. A chance encounter with a refugee child and his decision to help him bring new meaning and connection to his life.
This unexpected friendship offers a profound reflection on the real and imagined borders between nations, past and present, and life and death. The film won the Palme d’Or at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival and serves as the final installment in Angelopoulos’s trilogy on borders.
