He first reinvented cinema, then shattered it into pieces to bid farewell.
A journey resonating between Jean-Luc Godard’s groundbreaking first step in film history and his final feature-length farewell: “First and Last Godard”, on August 10th at Kadıköy Cinema!

This special selection brings together Godard’s masterpiece Breathless (À bout de souffle, 1960) and his cinematic farewell letter The Image Book (Le Livre d’image, 2018) in back-to-back screenings on the same day.
The first ignited the spark of the French New Wave – one of cinema’s most striking tales of youth, love, and rebellion. The second is Godard’s final word, final gesture, and final revolt, filled with fragmented images, distorted sounds, and political echoes. Two films, two different eras, yet the same radical creativity.
This special screening is not just a retrospective, but a cinematic reflection on how Godard began speaking the language of cinema—and how he ultimately dismantled and abandoned it.
