The film follows Josef’s journey as he arrives at a nameless sanatorium to visit his father. Yet this journey is less about a physical place than a state of consciousness: an experience of time drifting among childhood memories, repressed desires, mythical figures, and the ghosts of a decaying empire. The sanatorium becomes an in-between realm where the past can still be “suspended,” death is deferred, and reality constantly shifts its ground.

With its baroque visual language mirrors, dusty corridors, theatrical sets, and painterly compositions the film carries the viewer beyond rational storytelling. Rather than telling a conventional story, it captures a sense of drift, a stream of consciousness, and the melancholic echo of a lost Jewish–Central European culture on screen.
