A Hero of Our Time: All Films of Pedro Costa in Istanbul!

Hosted by Istanbul Modern and in collaboration with the Consulate of Portugal, all films by one of contemporary cinema’s most distinctive voices, Pedro Costa, will be presented to audiences in Istanbul through a special retrospective.

This retrospective, which has been in the making for over a year and has finally come to life, is truly a gift from Pedro Costa to us. The program, which we agreed upon during our interview with him in April 2024 and could only now bring to fruition, stands as a reflection of his generous spirit toward cinema itself. In that interview, Costa expressed his support for Othon — a newly founded platform at the time — with these words: “You have to keep the fire burning. I mean, you try, sometimes you feel very helpless. I’m here to help you with the fire.”

Today, we still feel that support deeply. And on this journey we continue — always striving to keep the fire alive — it is a great joy to pause and breathe with his films once again.
