“Sans Soleil” Screening

“I leave you with a sorrowful picture. Yet deep in my heart, I am happy.”
A cinematic form of thought: Sans Soleil, in theaters with an Othon presentation!
Sans Soleil, one of the most intense examples of Chris Marker’s unique cinematic language, is a cinematic experiment that questions time, memory, and the meaning of the image.
Throughout the film, Marker weaves together footage recorded in different corners of the world and, through letters read by a woman, transforms these images into the flow of thought.
Blurring the boundaries between documentary and essay, diary and meditation, Sans Soleil poses one of cinema’s deepest questions about what it means to “see” and to “remember.” As Marker’s voice moves through the images, it interlaces fragments of human history, cultural memory, and personal recollections with the aesthetic of a film diary.
This screening is made possible with the support of the Institut Français de Turquie.
